“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:10-11
We must be firm, impregnable, steadfast, stalwart, and resolute, for we are at war, in the fight. Not in or of ourselves but strong in the Lord.
We ought to be experienced in battle. Knowledgeable of God’s Word, our sword: in doctrine, in reading, in exhortation, and in the service of it. Formations of warriors: orderly and disciplined. Loyal stewards of God’s ward and charge. Circumspect on all sides: prudent and vigilant watching intently. Can this be said of thee?
There is a battle raging for the hearts and souls of men. Is thy heart right in the fight for the right with God? (“For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” I Cor. 3:9) Also in (II Tim. 2:3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”) We must have determination, discipline, endurance, vigilance, toughness, etc., to do spiritual combat in the Lord’s service. Let us watch and not allow ourselves to be ensnared or entangled with sin or this world’s affairs. We are in this world but not of it. We work and use this world for the furtherance of the kingdom of God. (“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;…” Matt. 6:33)
Let us strive and fight to be kind, sincere, forgiving, humble, long-suffering, upright, tender-hearted, true, with an obedient heart to the Word and for the Lord in the battle. (“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” I Peter 1:13) (“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Eph. 6:12-18) Amen!
