“But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?”
Matthew 3:14
John the Baptist knew his insufficiency, his necessity, his need. Do we? Not living for the Lord, out into that dry and dusty desert. Needing the cleansing power of the Saviour’s precious blood. (“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9)
Let us as John the Baptist; humbly cry out, to our Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ. (“…I have need to be baptized of thee,…”) Searching our hearts and lives. Confessing of sin; and if need be, perhaps you have never met the Saviour. Perceive thy need today: (“…repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:21) Call upon Him today. (“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Rom. 10:13)
