These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. – Acts 17:11

June 2 – “SANCTIFICATION”

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;”

 I Peter 2:9

Saints, Christians, Believers, we have the highest calling, the grandest position (chosen generation, royal priesthood, holy nation, peculiar people) by which we must prove ourselves. In self-examination, in speech, in practice, in conduct, in service, etc. Singing out with glory, praise, and thanksgiving to our Saviour Jesus Christ. Building upon Him our most holy faith, who hath called us out of darkness (blindness) into His marvellous light (Christ our life, wisdom, and sight). A people sanctified (separated and set apart) meet for the Master’s use.

There are three doctrinal aspects concerning our sanctification, which is in Christ Jesus, taught in the scriptures.

  1. (“Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Heb. 10:9-10) Glory! Amen! At the very moment of believing in Christ Jesus, we are Instantly (Instant sanctification) created a new creature (holy nation, called to be saints) in Christ. A new position in Christ Jesus, from an enemy of God to a child of God in Christ. (“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;” Heb. 3:1) (Also Phil. 1:1)
  2. (“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17) (“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” I Thess. 5:23-24) (II Cor. 3:18, Eph. 5:25-26) As we daily live for the Lord, the Holy Spirit by use of the Word in us, Progressively sanctifies (Progressive sanctification) us through daily experiences to be eternally preserved without sin in Christ. It is the Lord who has called us, who also will do it. (“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Phil. 2:13) (Also Phil. 1:6)
  3. (“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” I John 3:2) Our (Complete sanctification) consummating when we shall meet Him in the air or at the first resurrection. For we shall be changed in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, and so shall we ever be like and with the Lord our Saviour Jesus Christ. (“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Eph. 5:27) (I Cor. 15:51-58)
