Go Warriors, Go Cougs, Go Wildcats, Go Blue, Ovation after Ovation, Screaming and Clapping that is so loud it could burst ear drums, etc. on and on it goes. Actions of joyful glee beyond hysterical madness. People will become as it seems out of their minds when their team scores or when their child’s performance goes to the next level, or to Hollywood.
Yet when it comes to listening or hearing the Word of God taught or preached, it is no more than five minutes people start looking at the clock or yawning. Notice what God says in (II Peter 3:1-2 “This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:”) It is the Word of God we ought to be more mindful of and give the more earnest heed for they are not temporal or vain as sports and entertainment shows, etc. (“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Heb. 2:1) If we do not listen, hear, and heed (obey) God’s Word it will prove to be our destruction and determent.
In many churches even when the Cross of Christ or the Blood of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ is taught or preached: you do not hear an Amen shouted out but rather someone snoring. Wicked! Oh, how indifferent, insensitive, numb, and apathetic hearts have become in this lukewarm and Laodicean church age of today. (“And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” Luke 17:12-19) Only one out of the ten was so amazed and thankful for such a wonderful miracle wrought upon him that he fell down before the Lord giving praise, thankfulness, and glory to our mighty God and Saviour.
What or Whom doest thou glory in? What or Who thrills thy soul? (Who can cheer the heart like Je-sus, By His pres-ence all di-vine? True and tender, pure and pre-cious, O how blest to call Him mine! Refrain: All that thrills my soul is Je-sus; He is more than life to me. (Bass: to me;) And the fair-est of ten-thousand, In my bless-ed Lord I see. Thoro Harris, 1917) To Whom doest thou give thy glory and praise? Is it found in the thing which most of thy time is spent? Oh, how it ought to be in our Saviour and our loving Lord Jesus.
My friends, we ought to have hearts and minds whereby we continually offer up glory, praise, and thankfulness to our wonderful and benevolent Saviour Jesus Christ. (“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Col. 3:16)
